Y Fan (also known locally as Van Mansion) is a Grade II listed Tudor mansion house having undergone substantial restoration to a high standard since our purchase of the property in 2017. It is one of the most important mansion houses in Glamorgan with a recorded history going back to 1529.

The property is situated on the edge of Gwern y Domen ancient meadowland offering beautiful walks and is also located only a 15 minute walk from Caerphilly train station with frequent trains to Cardiff (15 minutes), and also with easy access to the A470 and the M4. It is also within very easy reach of all business parks in Caerphilly and therefore an ideal base for those travelling for work. It is set in a peaceful, quiet area with only the sound of the owls at night!

Caerphilly Castle is the second largest castle in the UK and well worth a visit - the mansion was built by Edward Lewis using some of the stone from the castle under licence from Henry VIII! The Lewis family remained in occupation at the mansion until approximately 1616 when they moved to St Fagan's on the outskirts of Cardiff (which looks very similar to the mansion and is also well worth a visit!) and the mansion in Caerphilly fell into a state of disrepair and was largely unoccupied.

The Taff Trail is easily accessible and there is a mountain biking park only 5 minutes away. There are two golf courses in Caerphilly and a number of other courses within easy travelling distance. Pen y Fan is approximately a 40 minute drive away. The property provides the perfect base from which to explore and enjoy the many delights of South Wales.
